Renaissance Fusion expands its advisory committee (STAC) with Dr. Timothy Luce
Renaissance Fusion strengthens its Senior Technical Advisor Committee (STAC) with the appointment of Dr. Timothy Luce.
A leading figure in global fusion research, Dr. Luce brings more than four decades of experience across 13 fusion experiments, including the Wendelstein VII-AS and H‑1 stellarators.
After earning his Ph.D. at Princeton University, he joined the DIII‑D program at General Atomics, contributing to major advances in electron cyclotron heating, current drive, energy transport, and power‑plant‑relevant operating scenarios.
Later, he served as Head of Science, Controls, and Operations and Chief Scientist at the ITER Organization, helping shape the scientific and operational foundations of the world’s largest fusion project.
He recently returned to the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), where he is Division Director for Experimental Operations and interim Associate Laboratory Director for Engineering, leading the commissioning and operational ramp‑up of FLARE and NSTX‑U.
Dr. Luce’s appointment reinforces the STAC’s mission by:
🔹 Providing Renaissance Fusion with independent guidance
🔹 Ensuring access to world-class scientific and engineering expertise
🔹 Supporting the scaling of stellarator technologies toward commercial fusion.
