Renaissance Fusion Receives SOFT Innovation Prize for Breakthrough HTS Magnet Manufacturing Technology
Renaissance Fusion has been awarded for LASERMAG, its innovative approach to manufacturing High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets for stellarators.
September 23, 2026 - We are proud to announce that Renaissance Fusion has received the 𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗧 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲, at the 34th Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT), in Aix-en-Provence, for LASERMAG.
🧲 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗚 (Laser-engraved Electro Magnet for stellarator modules) introduces a new manufacturing approach for High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets.
Using industrially scalable processes, we have shown that simplified stellarator field modules with laser-engraved current pathways can reproduce complex 3D magnetic fields. This result paves the way towards magnet manufacturing scale-up and the fusion energy transition.
The prize was awarded to Luana Barbosa Pina Pereira, Mechanical Engineer at Renaissance Fusion, representing the teams behind this work.
Victor Prost, Heads of Stellarator Design, Integration & Construction, said: "Proud to be part of the Renaissance Fusion team as we receive the SOFT Innovation Prize for our work on simplified stellarator magnets. Beyond the recognition, this award validates a key idea: simplifying fusion technologies to enable cost effective and scalable manufacturing. Our simplified stellarator magnets based on laser-engraved conductors are a step in that direction, helping turn fusion from a scientific challenge into an industrial opportunity.
We thank the SOFT Innovation Prize jury for this recognition and congratulate all the members of our teams who contributed to the project.
