Liquid metal technician

We are looking for a technician to join a team of scientists and engineers and enable liquid metal applications to fusion and other fields. The successful candidate will prepare liquid alloys, handle them in experiments, build and operate experimental setups and ancillary systems - for internal experimentation and external sale.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the assembly, commissioning, cleaning, and disassembling of liquid metal experiments (prototyping every 15 days/3 weeks). This task includes setting up vacuum components, electrical work, small lab machining…
Set up, calibrate and operate diagnostics for LM wall thickness and flow-rate measurement (including electrical, ultrasound, optical...) once the handling is well established
Prepare liquid metal alloys according to existing and new protocols, initially in small batches. Contribute to the up-scaling of liquid metal alloy production
Work closely with the other members of the experimental LM group, and help them make their experiments and products a success
Give feedback on improving the specifications and scaling up the production of LM materials, subsystems (pumps etc.) and full systems.
Occasionally assist the building manager and the safety engineer in designing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining the building layout, the safe and environmentally responsible exhaust of vapors and disposal of solid and liquid by-products, handling of dangerous items and materials, and installation of systems to detect and respond to fires and other hazards in the lab.
Qualifications -essential:
Brevet de technicien supérieur (BTS) from France or equivalent 2-year Diploma of Advanced Technician from other country, including electrical habilitations
Broad range of technical skills: mechanical, chemical, materials, thermal, vacuum, cryogenic
2+ years of hands-on experience in an R&D environment in a research laboratory or the industry
Commitment to and experience in following good practice and national and international Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) norms and regulations
Fluent in English (B2 - C1)
Qualifications -desirable:
Experience working safely with liquid Li, Na or other hot, flammable, corrosive fluids.
Certification in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) matters.
Existing network of machine-shops, welders and other professionals in the Grenoble area, for possible outsourcing of some tasks.
