We believe energy for humans shouldn’t bother the planet.
At Renaissance Fusion we build (in)credible magnets and liquid metal shields to bring stellarators out of the lab and onto the grid.
Stellarators (from ‘stella’, Latin for ‘star’) are the most efficient, steady and stable fusion energy devices on earth. They make it possible to decouple energy from fuels and emissions; like a super-star on earth.

In 2050 we will need to meet 2x the current energy demand.
At zero CO2 emissions.
We will need renewables and energy storage. And a safe, abundant, load-following, fuel- and land-efficient energy source.
Fusion is that source.

Stellarators are the most efficient, steady and stable fusion devices on earth and the best route to net fusion energy. We focus on making them:
Smaller and even more efficient thanks to strong magnetic fields generated by High Temperature Superconductors (HTS).
SIMPLER thanks to disarmingly simple “coil winding surfaces” and revolutionary HTS magnets, directly deposited and patterned on large surfaces.
RAMI (Reliable, Available, Maintainable, Inspectable), thanks to modular vessels and flowing liquid metal walls that prevent neutron damage and bring the radioactivity down to hospital levels.
We build (in)credible magnets and shields
1. Direct deposition of HTS coils; a large surface, for instance a cylinder, is directly coated with several superconducting films.
2. Direct patterning of HTS coils; the surface is then engraved by laser ablation to create 1D/2D coils
3. Simplified assembly of stellarator coil winding surfaces; toroidal array of patterned cylinders generates the 3D stellarator field.
4. Neutron shielding and heat extraction; cylinders are coated with flowing liquid metals

Who we are

As the only magnetic confinement fusion start-up in continental Europe, we work in a region that is home to 40% of the world’s talent, labs, universities in the field and with ITER, has fostered a unique ecosystem of related industries.
We’re rebels rooted in solid science, we think creatively outside the box and re-invent engineering under economic constraints.

We create a solution for a $1 trillion a year addressable fusion market. With no proliferation, meltdowns or fission waste.
Fusion will generate enough energy for a person’s lifetime with just a bathtub of seawater and the lithium found in two laptop batteries.
News
We are incredibly happy to be in the news: a big thank to Nathan Mann and our co-founder Martin Kupp. Even more importantly, commercial fusion is in the news and we are proud to carry its flag in Europe.
